Time Corridor to a 1960s Barnsley Civic

TIME CORRIDOR

Made by a son for his family, a ‘metaverse’ Civic Hall from 1960s Barnsley. A virtual dance floor with familiar sounds, VR story-telling and a timey-wimey twist….

It’s 1966 and boy meets girl on the dance floor of the Civic Hall. Fifty years into the future, their son would occupy studio space overlooking that very spot. From there, he would perfect the skills to recreate the scene below from five decades ago.

Has this resulted in some kind of temporal time loop? Certainly fanciful notions from this Doctor Who fan...

Indeed, in this metaverse, a 'Time Corridor' connects the two eras. Walking the corridor is to stroll through the lives of its creators. A kind of aide-mémoire, where the past is always present. The Civic Hall is inextricably linked throughout - from The Kinks to Clause 8.13, ‘The Sooty Show’ to 'Spillikin’ (a particular inspiration).

All accomplished through VR story-telling, it’s a blend of film, sound, CGI and 3D augmented reality. The virtual dance floor is faithfully recreated from recollections, artfully embellished and generously sync-licensed with a poptastic sixties soundtrack.

This ever-evolving creation begun life in lockdown. A nice way to keep memories alive and, for this creative, something to create with the technology that lay redundant while Davros unleashed his virus.
